This post was supposed to be a review of Jasper. However, I have since found another AI writer that I’m replacing it with called Notion. Now Notion is a completely different kind of product. Jasper is meant specifically for writing ads, posts, even books. Whereas Notion is sort of like OneNote. It’s meant to help organize your thoughts and ideas and has an AI writer add-on feature. It’s almost like an after thought in Notion, however, it’s REALLY good!
Jasper is good at writing more long form things, while Notion is good at creating sections and headlines more quickly.
I have been playing around with Jasper for a couple months now and I’ve really enjoyed it. I made it write a children’s book and help me write a nonfiction book about using AI creators to unlock your inner creative. I even tried to get it to rewrite parts of Visions, my sci fi novel, but that wasn’t as successful. It’s been fun, however the price point is troublesome. It’s $50/month at the cheapest! So when I came across Notion, which can accomplish much of the same thing but for… wait for it…. $8/mo! I switched over pretty quick! Plus all the organization tools are really nice and I’m going to use it for more than just writing.
But I was curious how these really stack up performance wise. So let’s do a head to head comparison of Jasper VS Notion using different text prompts.
Jasper

Now let’s say you’re writing a work of fiction and you need one of your characters to do something dramatic, but you’re not sure what. This might give you some ideas.
PROMPT: “Mary does something dramatic”
OUTPUT:
“Mary stood up from her seat, trembling with rage and indignation. This was it; the final straw that had broken the camel’s back. She had been pushed to her limit, and now she was done. She didn’t care about what anyone else thought. All she wanted was justice and resolution for an issue that had been left unresolved for too long. She was ready to take matters into her own hands.”

Or maybe you need to introduce a new character, but you’re having trouble envisioning what they look like.
PROMPT: “create a female character who is half elf, half orc, and wants revenge on Mary”
OUTPUT:
“Enter Riven, a fierce half-elf, half-orc woman with a thirst for vengeance. Riven had been wronged by Mary in the past and has sworn to take her revenge. She is tall and powerful, with pointed ears and bright green eyes that seem to burn with intensity. She wears leather armor of brown and green, and carries a longsword and dagger on her belt. She is quick-witted and often speaks before thinking, but she knows exactly what she wants—and that’s justice. Riven won’t rest until Mary gets what’s coming to her. “

For this one, I had to change the prompt slightly in Notion because it came back with the error message that there is no character in this document named Mary so I cannot tell you what she did. This is incredible to me because it means Notion might actually be looking for context in the document. This has amazing potential for writing continuous stories and having the AI know who the characters are and how they behave! Jasper was not so good at continuity.
PROMPT: “write about a character named Mary who does something dramatic”
OUTPUT:
“Mary was a quiet and reserved woman, always keeping to herself. But one day, something inside her snapped. She had had enough of living life on the sidelines and decided to take matters into her own hands.
Mary left her job, sold her belongings, and embarked on a journey of self-discovery. She traveled the world, experiencing new cultures and meeting new people. Along the way, she discovered a passion for photography and began documenting her travels through the lens of her camera.
As she continued on her journey, Mary grew more and more confident in herself and her abilities. She realized that she had been holding herself back for far too long and that it was time to start living life on her own terms.
In the end, Mary returned home a changed woman. She had a newfound sense of purpose and an unshakable belief in herself. And though her journey had been difficult at times, she knew that she had made the right decision by taking control of her life and following her dreams.”

Had to change this prompt as well because it first said that it depicted acts of violence and it wanted me to select a prompt that was suitable for all ages. This could be restrictive in the future but okay. I also had to nix the Mary part because I had erased the last output and there was again no character in the document named Mary.
PROMPT: “create a female character who is half elf, half orc, and was wronged by someone.”
OUTPUT:
“Half-elf, half-orc, Aria had always felt out of place in the world. Her pointed ears and green-tinted skin made her a target for ridicule and discrimination. Despite this, she always tried to live a peaceful life, keeping to herself and avoiding conflict.
One day, however, her life was turned upside down when she discovered that her employer, a wealthy human merchant, had been stealing from her and her fellow workers. When she confronted him about it, he fired her on the spot and had her thrown out onto the street.
Determined to seek justice for herself and her colleagues, Aria decided to take matters into her own hands. She formed a group of like-minded individuals who had also been wronged by the merchant, and together they plotted their revenge.
Through careful planning and cunning tactics, they were able to expose the merchant’s wrongdoing and bring him to justice. Aria finally felt like she had found her place in the world, as a protector of the downtrodden and a champion of justice.
But even though she had achieved her goal, Aria knew that there were still many others out there who were suffering from injustice and oppression. With a newfound sense of purpose and determination, she set out to make the world a better place for all those who had been wronged.
